Y'all remember when I said Kairos had 100+ organizers in the State Fellowship? More than half of them are from the South. Which is personally exciting for me because I am from the South. And I know the South got something to say.
Speaking of something to say I feel like one of the best ways to introduce the South is through music. So here’s a playlist of songs about the South (or least references to the South) – hit play while you scroll through. I promise it’s a vibe.
We have an incredible group of Fellows from organizations in the South, with organizers working on issues in a particularly difficult part of the country. From abortion bans that cover nearly the entire region to voting restrictions aimed at making it harder for Black & brown people to vote, the political landscape of the South is not an easy terrain to organize on. Tackling these challenges means that organizers have to continue to build strong, politically engaged bases. And to further their reach and impact, digital organizing will have to be a part of their strategies. The Fellows we have this year already believe that digital organizing can help them win for their communities in the long term but I’m really excited to see and share how our Southern Fellows begin to apply all that they learn in the Fellowship to their work this year and beyond.
